Commissioner of Police, Clayton Fernander is defending the search of the property of President of the Bahamas Electrical Workers Union (BEWU) Kyle Wilson by police recently.

Fernander said, “they were armed with a warrant based on a complaint that was made at South Beach Police Station. There was some equipment, I’m talking about cell phones, i-pad that was stolen and it was being tracked right in that yard where he lives. We didn’t even know who lives there and its a triplex. We were armed with warrant and on searching the yard we even found some of the properties that was taken from the lady’s car who was making the complaint in the garbage bin in that yard.”

According to the Commissioner Kyle Wilson was never targeted. “The officers searched based on the information that they were armed with and he came to find out what was going on. We never, based on the information from my officers, they never searched Mr. Wilson’s residence, but it’s a triplex and he lives in one of the units. So I’m very disappointed for them to drag the police into their issue but we’ll continue to do our job. We are not detoured by it, but he needs to speak to that again and to address it properly.”

Wilson spoke with ZNS News in an interview where he opined that the searches conducted were part of intimidation tactics due to his comments against government’s plans to change Bahamas Power and Light.
