Two jobs fairs were held on the island of Exuma over the weekend. One of the events was held at the Sandals Emerald Bay Resort and the other at the St. Andrew’s Parish Community Center.

Jade Williams is one of the current employees of Sandals Emerald Bay who will become unemployed when the hotel closes in mid August. She attended the job fair held there and shared her optimism about job prospects. “We do have a good amount of employment here on Exuma. I don’t think that people are eager to go out a look for it. So I think Sandals putting on this job fair really helps them in a way,” Williams said.

Among the companies represented at the Sandals job fair was the Grand Isle Resort. General Manager, Joe Eustice said, “we’re looking for opportunities for some of the Sandals employees to work with us in many areas of our resort. We have some culinary needs that we found some good candidates for, of course housekeeping there’s always a need. Some people are also interested in our spa and working even at our front desk. We have opportunities in all of those areas.”

The Department of Labour’s job fair was attended by its National Apprenticeship Programme Executive Consultant, Michelle Malcolm. She told ZNS News, “through the National Apprenticeship Programme our aim is to create a programme that is so robust that we would be able to place persons in just about every sector of our economy.”

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation and Member of Parliament for Exuma, the Hon. Chester Cooper and Director of Labour, Howard Thompson also attended the Department of Labour’s job fair.
