Commodore of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF), Dr. Raymond King appeared at a press conference at the Office of the Prime Minister recently where he revealed that officers had formed a blockade to protect the southern border of The Bahamas.

King also revealed an increase in the apprehension of Haitian migrants. He spoke with ZNS News on Wednesday explaining that “a joint interception between us and TCI, I think it was 140 persons on the vessel, the arrests that we made solo was 107 and TCI made a separate arrest of some 60 persons and the United States Coast Guard has intercepted a vessel of some 65 persons that I think they made a direct repatriation to Haiti.”

The Commodore anticipates the rise in apprehensions to continue as gang violence in the Haitian capital keeps up. “I foresee it being a sustained effort for the foreseeable future. And so we’re poised to continue our efforts. Between the regional partners, the United States, TCI/ United Kingdom, as well as our resources, as well as the police marine unit, we will continue work in tandem so we can guard, protect and defend our borders,” King said.

Apprehended illegal migrants will be repatriated.
