Appeal For UN Funding

Minister of Social Services, Information and Broadcasting, the Hon. Myles Laroda addressed the United Nation’s (UN) 68th Session on the Status of Women this week.

While addressing the body Laroda appealed for funding for local initiatives to empower women. He said, “we hope to expand these initiatives with UN and other international partner help. We welcome assistance and collaboration to meet our objectives of strengthening institutions and service empowering women and girls.”

The Minister also spoke about the economic enfranchisement of women and other issues. “In this regard I extend this on behalf of the government of The Bahamas to UN agencies and stakeholders for resources extended to the Bahamas Development Bank in offering very relevant, timely women financial accelerator programmes in the bank’s mandate. Adding women to the country’s industrial landscape. An academy of women entrepreneur micro loan programme and a UN joint SDG fund programme project on building back equal are effective addressing training, access to additional capital, risk reduction and facilitates attaining SDGs.
