Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville gave an update on the construction progress for the new hospital on the island of Grand Bahama. A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the project in May 2023.
Dr. Darville told ZNS News, “when we began some of the infrastructural work and the foundation we found a slight irregularity in the rock and we had to go back to the drawing board. Our architects are now completed the new foundation drawing and if you were able to go there you would see now the footings are now in place for the contractor to new erect vertical construction.”
The Health Minister also spoke to how these issues have affected this projects timeline. “Many of the healthcare planners and our architects that there’s ways on how we can make up for the time loss with the redrawing of some areas of the foundation plan as a result of inconsistency in the bedrock.”
The new hospital is located on East Sunrise Highway and its expected to cost approximately $200 million dollars.
