Members of the Free National Movement led by Party Leader and Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard held a press conference on Thursday to address the government’s energy reform plan. The Minister of Transport and Energy, the Hon. Jobeth Coleby-Davis announced earlier this month that the government has entered a twenty five year partnership with Island Grid for the transmission and distribution of electricity.

Pintard told reporters, “we believe that this is a done deal. We believe that the ink has dried on this unless the Bahamian people demonstrate that they are deeply outraged by arrangements that are hatched privately before the government engages all of us publicly. What they are doing is telling you accept that they have put in place a flawed process unwilling to be accountable and transparent to you and hopefully on the backend you are going to get more affordable electricity, reliable electricity and of course cleaner electricity. We believe you could accomplish both. Run a government the way it ought to be run and still get reliability, affordability and clean energy.”
