U.S. Signs memorandums of understanding on Haiti Recovery


CaribWorldNews, WASHINGTON, D.C., Tues. Sept. 21, 2010: U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday signed two memorandums of understanding on the earthquake recovery in Haiti with Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.

One memorandum is designed to establish an industrial park and a garment manufacturing operation in Haiti with the potential to create more than 10,000 permanent jobs.

The other one is aimed to help rebuild the University Hospital of Haiti which is the central public hospital for Port-au-Prince and the country`s main teaching hospital.

The signing took place on the sidelines of the high-level UN meeting on the Millennium Development Goals, which opened Monday at the UN Headquarters in New York.

The signing comes more than eight months after the Jan. 12th earthquake that hit Haiti, resulting in more than 220,000 deaths.
